Im not realy sure what this is. I know what it was supposed to be. When making [link] I had an idea/ vision of a very orange sunset being manipulated into something shiny and almost technical looking. Kinda like an interface I think. Then again, Im not too good with terminology, so I might be way off.

This is what came of my vision thou.

After editing the stock image: [link]

I added some highlights. Then came to the conclusion that it was to bare and drab. So I used this tutorial: [link] to add the buttons. The words have meanings:

Ablepsia: Blindness. (since my father is blind)
Numquid: An inquisitive person.
Pastose: Painted thickly.
Hebenon: Anything with poisonous juices.

This one made me stop and take a second and third look. This sort of abstract interface design is something I have played with some in my own gallery. I enjoyed taking a closer look at this one.

Your choice of words and icons is interesting, especially since you used abstruse words, which can function as dummy type for those who don't want to look too deeply, but reveal hidden meanings on a superficial level (the literal definitions) and a deeper level (imagining why you chose them).

I also enjoy how you use your own works for inspiration, and find stock and tutorials on the web to help you make your art. It means this simple piece draws on its digital surroundings, like a physical artwork might be inspired by a view out the window, and cooked up from materials found around the house or garage.

I like the way you think, especially about the ability to drawn from someones "digital" surroundings. Someone recently refered to useing tutorials as being on a bandwagon, wich kind of offended me since I am the first person to be like "Check out this tut I found, it has some great ideas!!"

Again thou, I didnt put as much thought into this peice as you have found looking at it. Just another one of my things where I have a vision in my head, try to make it come out. . . and part of it gets lost in the process of making it.

Your comment has lead me to think about remaking this thou, thank you for that and for the comment of course!!!

I don't think it matters where you learn something, as long as you are open to learning and growing. Magazines, classes, museums, websites, books, conversations, FAQ's & tuts... finding a good tutorial is almost like finding a mentor.

Yes.
For the first year - 2 years of useing photoshop I didnt do anything with tuts. I just kinda played around and figured out what I could. But after finding tuts, my art has been able to evolve much more quickly. With lots of different ideas now that I might not of had if I hadnt run across a tut or 2.
When people simply copy it, and dont make it their own, then yes, that is slacking.
I dont think just the use of a tut make it any less of a peice of art, especially if the artist ends up developing their own style from the techniques used.
